For Better / For Worse

Old Man Markley is the newest band to join Punk super-label Fat Wreck Chords!

While maintaining a punk aspect about them they manage to draw most of their sound from classic country.
The songs are catchy, the singings clear, the songs are well written,
so let's hear it for Old Man Markley!
EDIT: Like a dumbass, I forgot to link to their myspace!
www.myspace.com/oldmanmarkley

I just heard about this band I'm already really really excited for this new release!

Donora

Donora is a band that I stumbled across by accident actually,
I was searching for "Shout!" by the Isley Brothers and their song, also titled "Shout!" came up and I clicked it by accident.
I was pleased with what I saw so I was quick to download anything else I could find by them.

So here you go. I find the singer has a great style and I hope it is appreciated by everyone else. (video below)
If you listen to their other stuff I find that their singer (Casey Hanner) has an unbelievable ability to write cute maybe even unintentionally funny lyrics WITHOUT making the songs become a self-parody (see: I kissed a girl - Katy Perry) Also if you check them out on youtube they seem to hve this series of covers they perform live. Check that out too cause it really ranges from Hot Blooded by Foreigner to Paper Planes by MIA

Also as a reminder, if you've got a band you'd like me to check out, just leave it in a comment and I may just post about it!

New stuff!

It seems to be prime-time to be releasing a new album because Less than Jake and even the legendary Social Distortion are slated for new releases very soon!

While I couldn`t find out too much of anything concerning the Social Distortion release,
I`ve gotta say I am way more excited for that. So I`ll keep diggin`and keeping everyone posted!

Less Than Jake, your favorite Gainesville ska band, has compiled an album of covers!
BUT these aren`t just any covers! Oh no! These are 90`s theme song covers!
Check it out, here`s the Animaniacs as performed by LTJ.

Personally, I think they`ve run out of ideas.
Tell me what you think!

For Mr. Derp

New Creepshow soon!

These folks are from Burlington, Ontario and are one of the few psycho/horrorbilly bands I can listen to.
Sarah Blackwood is a fox. (now you know)

Anyways they've got a new song up on their myspace and if you're into this kinda music then I might suggest checking it out!
If you don't like that you can check out their Ramones cover they've got up!

Lemme know what you guys think!

Blackwater

Ladies and gentlemen, I am not entirely sure how aware you are of my beloved Toronto music scene
but these boys are probably the best white-boy reggae band since Bedouin Soundclash and you've gotta face it,
everyone likes at least one of their songs!

This album is fantastic, while its not something you'd listen to to get you pumped for something. If you need to relax and just chill the fuck out, this is your soundtrack.

I've seen these guys a couple of times, not only are they great guys but they are great musicians so please, check 'em out!

Overall:
4/5
('cause I really hate 1 song on the album beyond any explanation)

A Little Piece of Awesome

Avenged Sevenfold, "A Little Piece of Heaven" from TWENTYFOURCORE Productions on Vimeo.

Have you boys and/or girls heard this fucking song?
Damn! So epic, and fucked up.
I need to share this with you because like it or not, it is a masterpiece of a song all things considered.
Prepare yourself for 8 minutes of WTFOMGYES

Fuck You!

I'm not usually into the R&B kinda stuff, but I fucking love this guys music.
He's the same guy who did that song "Crazy."(the one they dance to in Kick-ass for you young folk)
But yeah, this is his newest single and it's been stuck in my head all week.
So I thought I'd share and spread the joy!

The Longest EP

That's right ladies and gentlemen! NOFX has returned with another compilation track consisting of 30 tracks from their previous EPs, and other hard to find stuff. This album contains songs from many of the EPs across their 25+ year career. Personally, I prefer their B-sides and EPs  over most of their actual album work, so I personally love this album, but that's just me.

Now, keep in mind that since this album spans their entire career, there is some pretty bad stuff on it. But if you're a fan of Nofx and haven't heard some of their unreleased stuff, check this album out!
If you've heard most of their EPs then I wouldn't suggest it as there isn't too much you can't get else where.

You're on the internet.
Just download it, man.

3/5
Same ol' Nofx

Some rad guitar skills

I have never seen anything like this!
The way they play is so unorthodox but still has a smooth flow about it, someone care to write it out for me?
Found this video on http://www.jazzguitarblog.com/
Hes got lots of interesting stuff so please, check it out!

I'll be posting later today also, so keep checking back!

Cinema

I'm a little late getting to this one, but it's a pretty solid album and I thought I'd take a crack at it.

The Cat Empire are incredibly talented musicians, and they know it too. They write amazing songs and have their own signature style. I could only imagine it can be difficult to achieve that without a guitar player. But honestly, you can't even tell. They blend everything together so well it's like peanut butter with jelly. (Please, excuse the cliche.)

This album is no different. Though there are significantly less horns than their first couple albums they still keep with the great jazz/reggae fusion and driving beats that can really get you moving.

Overall:
4/5

See songs:
Waiting, Feeling's Gone
and All Hell (has a kickass keyboard solo)

Also (followers), if you couldn't tell I'm mostly reviewing albums I like before I get into other stuff. I haven't got too many followers yet so I hope this is to your liking BUT if you'd like to recommend something I'd be happy to check it out. I'm always looking for some new music for my library!

Weezer - Indie Again?

Mmmm, not quite. But in my opinion it's their best album in a while. The Red Album was a let down and the world was hoping that their next release "Raditude"  would redeem them. After hearing their collaboration with Lil' Wayne any hope for "Raditude" went down the drain. Seriously, who's idea was that? Damn.

Hurley is not the "indie rock redemption" for Weezer you may hear about but it is definitely a strictly rock album. Cuomo's voice is strong as ever and the songs get my feet tapping for sure.

In short, if you take Hurley as a rock album, and not so much a return to their indie roots its pretty damn good.  (Plus, bonus points for working with punk producing god Brett Gurewitz!)

Overall:
4/5

Old Fashioned?

For some nostalgia and to promote some real talent, Benny Goodman and his band rock what is probably the most recognized song from the swing era ever. Please enjoy, cause it is actually a really awesome song.

Miss Li

She's a Swedish artist I found out from a friend a few months ago. It's pretty unique music from what I've heard and she's pretty cute too. Check out this video! Also check out "Dancing the Whole Way Home" and "Holiday."
I love her voice!

New Bomb The Music Industry! song sure is fun

They certainly spared no expense. I'm not too sure about the song itself. But just watching it to see all the fun they had making the video is worth it, I think.

Cavalcade

This band is epic.
If you haven't heard them I highly recommend you do.They're the youngest band signed to punk record label Fat Wreck Chords and proudly Canadian, which makes them pretty damn awesome.Their newest album "Cavalcade" has got some of the best melodic punk I've heard while still paying homage to their ska-punk roots. They've got unbeatable energy when it comes to their style and songwriting is unmatched. So you should definitely pick up their 7-inch single coming out soon so be sure to check it out when it hits stores Sept. 28!

All-in-all: Fantastic Album 5/5

I need some specifics

I need help deciding what it is that I'm going to blog about.
I will update and keep posting and whatnot, however if I do that,
I'll need something people like that updates frequently.

So I was thinking, either
1. A local music blog, send me your stuff and I'll review it (and try to be nice) and you get free pubilicity
Plus some special selections from my favorite bands
2. Movie updates and news
3. Or I could just start logging my adventures in a ska band (sarcasm)
